Our History
The Music Studios of Jan Erickson have been serving the musical community since 1989. The studio was first founded by Jan Erickson, a piano teacher who had over 30 years of teaching experience. She saw the need to offer quality music instruction on a larger scale than she was able to provide alone, so with her husband, Bill, she opened her first studio in Glen Lake. Later, she opened two more studios in Eden Prairie and Plymouth. With a total of over 40 instructors, the studio grew to offer instrumental and voice instruction in addition to piano lessons.
In 2001, Stu Sawdey, a 35-year veteran of music education, and his wife, Diana, purchased the studios from Jan Erickson. They have continued to increase the high level of instruction as well as the excellent relationship between the instructors and the studio. They are proud of the fact that each student receives quality, personal instruction in a caring environment.
The Eden Prairie facility has 21 studios for instruction and practice as well as a wonderful recital space. Stu commented, “This is a gorgeous facility. It’s designed to enhance the one-on-one teaching environment and experience for instructors and students.” Music Studios of Jan Erickson offers music instruction for all ages, from kindergarten to adult.
